No doubt about it, tattoos have the ability to deliver very political messages. This has always been the case and it certainly will always remain the same. Recently in Turkey however, a specific political tattoo has really grown in popularity with those who oppose the current direction that the Turkish government seems to be heading. According to this article , people all over Turkey are visiting Tattoo studios, many of whom don’t particularly like tattoos, simply to show their support for a growing movement that wishes to keep church and state separate. As a matter of fact, sixty-percent of the people who come into Instanbul’s Inkstanbul Tattoo shop (gotta love that name), have no other tattoos. What do all these people want tattooed on their bodies and why? Nothing more than the signature of Turkish politician Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, tattooed as “K. Ataturk”. Ataturk was the founder of the secular Turkish state and a well respected innovator in terms of Turkey adopting more of a European approach to everyday life. Today many feel that the secular way of life is in danger of being edged out in favour of a more Islamic republic. “The Justice and Development party (AKP), the current ruling party in Turkey has its roots in political Islam, and has exacerbated fears among opposition secular members that the party holds long-term plans to transform the country from its secular establishment to an Islamic republic. “Just like it happened in Iran,” Arti said. “They got rid of the shah and it became more religious and conservative. AKP is trying to do the same in Turkey.” The increased frequency of young Turks asking tattoo parlors for Ataturk’s signature, “K.Ataturk”, tattooed on their bodies comes as a reaction to the upcoming June constitution referendum in Turkey. ” Though I don’t know a lot about this situation in Turkey, I find it really interesting that people are willing to tattoo themselves in opposition to a melding of church and state. I know that in my own country people would never commit such a dedicated move to express their beliefs. Not only that, but I’ve seen many different forms of protest in my life, but I’ve never seen something like this. Good luck to them and their cause. Indian Mehndi Tattoos
Tattooing an Indian design takes a set out of you. If you have chosen an Indian design it shows that you are inclined to religious and pictures. Most o the Indian tattoos are very godly and be a symbol of spirituality. The several gods the country has will give you ample alternative to opt from. Anyhow Indian tattoo does not proffer any permanent tattoo. It uses a particular kind of ink known Mehndi. The design is carefully increase on the hand or the place where the tattoos are required. Indian tattoos are meant to pay revere for the gods you worship. When the bride is going to her in-laws place, the bride has to pay her good wishes to the god at their home for a safe and happy life in her next house. The faith is, the bride is not perfectly dressed if her hands are not adorned with mehndi. The tattoo is a temporary tattoo which fades away in 2-3 weeks time. The mehndi tattoo is inked on the hands and legs and made to let it reside for sometime. Without worrying the designs the person with the mehndi tattoo will have to do their other works. Once the mahdi is dried, it i smashed off and the design is imprinted on the hand. The darker the intuition the better it shall seem.And the superstition is that, mother-in-law and the bride will love each other as really as the darkness of the mehndi tattoo. Indian men deem the mehndi tattoo to be very girlish and do not like adorning mehndi on their hands or legs. Small kids are tattooed with mehndi to ignore negative influence on them.

Oddboy – Tattoo Artist
Oddboy – an award winning artist from the UK. The name catches your attention first but as soon as you start checking out the man’s tattoo work, you realize there is more here than a funky, memorable name. From color to black and gray – horror to baby pictures – Oddboy’s work is exceptional on all counts. Oddboy has been tattooing since 1985 and currently is working out of Real Art Tattoo shop in Leicester. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to have a shop site but you can check out many examples of Oddboy’s work on the shop’s myspace page – here . I thought this religious piece was a good example of his work although his animal portraits and even old school are very good.
